UMF Active Manuka Honey

UMF (Unique Manuka Factor) honey has been receiving a great deal of interest worldwide with the discovery of its very affective natural antibiotics. Dr Peter Molan from the University of Waikato has carried out much research and the honey is currently being tried on hospital patients suffering from stomach ulcers. Dr Molan’s research proves that Manuka Honey destroys many strains of bacteria including Staphylococcus, Streptococcus (causes sore throats), and Staphaureus and is especially exciting in its ability to kill Helicobacter Pylori – the bacteria associated with peptic ulcers.

The research team headed by Dr Peter Molan of Waikato University, has found Manuka Honey very effective for topical use on wounds, burns, acnes, eczema, abscesses, cracked skin, eye infections, heartburn.

Dr Molan has shown scientifically that all honey have varying degrees of healing properties. This is due to the anti-bacterial agent – hydrogen peroxide – found in honey, being effective against most strains of bacteria. As hydrogen peroxide decomposes, it generates highly reactive free radicals that react and kill bacteria.

In their research Dr Molan and his team found a second anti-bacterial component, a unique non-peroxide activity. This non-peroxide activity is found only in some Manuka Honey, and can only be detected by laboratory testing. The UMF ratings indicate the anti-bacterial strength of the honey.

How to use UMF Honey

Honey stimulates tissue regeneration thus less scarring because honey stimulates tissue regeneration. Apply directly to wound or ulcer and cover with a porous dressing. Change dressing 3 times daily.

  2. For stomach ulcers, digestive health. The most effective method of treating stomach ulcers is by taking Manuka Honey directly on an empty stomach first thing in the morning or before lunch and dinner, on a small piece of bread.
